ABSTRACT

Present study an yellow pigment producing bacteria was isolated from soil and the pigment was extracted by ethanol and acetone as solvents, and identified by 16S rRNA sequencing as Micrococcus yunnanensisS-CSR0010, got accession number GenBank: KT443901.1. Maximum absorbance seen at 439 nm indicated the presence of carotenoid (Neoxanthin). By analyzing the physiological characteristics it is found that, the maximum Carotenoid (Neoxanthin) production was seen at 30°C and pH 7.The Peanut Broth shows maximum pigment production at 30°C, peanut acts as a better source of substrate in enhancing pigment production in nutrient broth. From antibacterial sensitivity test we can conclude that the pigment produced by Micrococcus yunnanensisS-CSR0010shows antibacterial activity against Multiple Drug Resistance Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas. The antimicrobial compound derived from these Micrococcus varians strain will be useful in developing antibiotics against multi drug resistant bacteria.
